Alumni Spotlight: Nickolas Kutsch
University of Iowa Alumni of 2018
“Take advantage of this amazing opportunity! It will change your life for the better! I cannot thank this scholarship enough for what it has allowed me to do!”
What do believe was the most valuable part of your experience as a Bright Scholar?
One of the most rewarding opportunities I had as a result of this scholarship was to donate my high school graduation money to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I had always wanted to donate to the organization, and I was able to sponsor a child’s wish to visit Disney World. I was so grateful to the Bright Foundation for the generous scholarship, and I wanted to start paying it forward as soon as possible.
How are you sharing your time and/or talents with others?
I am currently a full-time software engineer for BAE Systems, and I tutor students in math and science. I also volunteer with the Make-A-Wish foundation any chance I get.
What was your favorite class and why?
Embedded Systems was my favorite college class because it was a great combination of hardware and software working together. It was also a class that taught me how to effectively work as part of a team, which is a key skill to develop prior to entering the workforce.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My parents are my biggest inspiration as they have taught me so much about life and what it means to work hard. They have been there every step of the way to support me and guide me to where I am at today.
