One rea­son Lois and Dale Bright were able to make sig­nif­i­cant invest­ments over time was their deci­sion to save care­ful­ly, when and where they could. Today, one of the main goals for our schol­ar­ships is that recip­i­ents grad­u­ate with­out stu­dent loan debt. It is our hope that they, too, will be able to save care­ful­ly when they launch their careers.

In the mean­time, we know schol­ars are reg­u­lar­ly work­ing through bud­gets and fig­ur­ing out expens­es beyond what schol­ar­ships can cov­er. We also rec­og­nize that the cur­rent COVID-19 pan­dem­ic has added addi­tion­al finan­cial strug­gles for many. Say­ing ​“Save Care­ful­ly” is often eas­i­er said than done, espe­cial­ly now. 

Schol­ars con­tin­u­ous­ly learn and apply finan­cial lit­er­a­cy skills. We have been amazed with some of the things they have been able to make hap­pen while still in col­lege due to their care­ful bud­get­ing, plan­ning, and sav­ing when and where they could.
